The Milestone Hotel London
This hotel goes the extra mile for your mutt. Staff will learn your dog's name, offer a menu that includes steak and sausage, a turn-down service and a customised welcome hamper of treats and toys. They also provide collar tags with the hotel's address. milestonehotel.com

Trigony House Thornhill Dumfries and Galloway
Kit, the owners' miniature dachshund, and Roxy, their golden retriever, greet you on arrival. You'll find a personal welcome note in your room along with a doggy welcome box stuffed with treats and a map detailing surrounding walks for hounds to take their owners on. Dogs are allowed in all the public spaces other than the dining room — if you can't bear to eat without your four-legged friend, they'll set a table up for you in the bar. trigonyhotel.co.uk

Blagdon Manor Ashwater Devon
The owners of this restaurant with rooms have three chocolate labs, Nutmeg, Cassia and Mace. Naturally, they have thought of everything canine. The covered courtyard has space for wellies post-walk, fresh towels for wiping down muddy pups and gourmet dog biscuits. blagdon.com

Overwater Hall Ireby Cumbria
This stately manor has set up a dog boardwalk, perfect for a quick stroll with your pet. It also has its own booklet of walks and a library teeming with dog walking books to borrow. If you fancy a bit of culture or shopping, the hotel can arrange a sitter. Most guests have a dog and everyone congregates with their animals in the lounge of an evening. overwaterhall.co.uk

Summer Lodge Evershot Dorset
Instead of traditional 'do not disturb' signs, Summer Lodge provides crocheted pillows to hang on the door which read 'doggy in room' if a dog is unattended in there. When you make your reservation, the hotel asks what type of walks you're interested in and then provides a bespoke dossier to suit your pooch. When we visited, the butler presented Blue with a plate of specially prepared sausages. summerlodgehotel.co.uk
