Hotels in the US are finally updating their mini-bar fare

Luxury hotels are upping the ante by providing cool treats in their mini-bars. The Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, Connecticut (+1 860 868 9466, mayflowerinn.com ) is touting a new ‘green’ mini-bar, featuring coconut water, kombucha (fermented tea), organic chocolate and water buffalo milk yogurt. The Westin New York at Times Square (+1 212 201 2700, westinny.com ) goes one step further with its Purification Station, offering a personal oxygen dispenser, homeopathic stress care kit and aromatherapy naturopatches.

Hotel Allegro in Chicago (+1 312 236 0123, allegrochicago.com ) has recyclable razors and toothbrushes plus organic treats like Pale Ale and luxe chocolate. The newest addition to the mini-bar at the Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago (+1 312 588 8000, trumpchicagohotel.com ) is a bottle of pure Tasmanian Rain (£5 a pop). The water comes from the Australian island of Tasmania and is, allegedly, the purest water anywhere in the world because it never touches the ground.

For a more esoteric choice, The Nine Zero hotel in Boston (+1 617 772 5800, ninezero.com ) offers yo-yos for big and little kids alike. Meanwhile, the new Winvian hotel in Connecticut (+1 860 567 9600, winvian.com ) is so luxurious that everything in the mini-bar is free.
