If you're a fan of showbiz rumour — oh, come on, you are — it's likely you found out about Charlie Sheen or Lindsay Lohan's latest shenanigans from TMZ. Now the celebrity news website is offering daily bus trips around LA neighbourhoods such as Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Not just pointing out where stars have stumbled out of nightclubs or done the walk of shame from police stations — although that is a large part of it — but also trying to spot big names.
'This is not a tour, it is a show,' says Harvey Levin, TMZ's executive producer. 'We take people to secret places where celebrities get into trouble. There are songs, funny videos and games.'
It's certainly lively. At one point we see Kevin Nealon, from Saturday Night Live and Weeds, mooching down the pavement, which elicits much whooping. P Diddy, Tyra Banks and Jack Black have all been spotted — TMZ staffers carry cameras, ready to leap off the bus when there's an on-the-spot interview to be had.
If you've never been to Los Angeles, the two-hour tour also offers a good orientation of the city. You're shown a smorgasbord of restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels and stores. Paparazzi favourite BOA Steakhouse on Sunset Boulevard, perhaps, where Oprah dines? Or Villa Blanca on Brighton Way, where even the owner's dog has 30,000 Twitter followers? Barking mad, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
